Massage Therapy

What is prenatal massage?

Prenatal Massage is a safe, soothing choice for pregnant individuals to ease the discomfort that often accompanies growing a human being. RMTs work with you, as your body changes to ensure a safe and effective treatment. Our therapists use prenatal tables to allow the pregnant person to lay face down, if suitable, or a variety of pillowing options to customize the experience for each person and their ever changing needs. Prenatal massage is safe in all trimesters. A 60 minute appointment is recommended, at least for the initial treatment, to allow proper time for assessment, positioning, and treatment.

Cesarean Scar Tissue Release

Scarring of any sort affects the entire body. Cesarean sections also come with the added difficulty of a newborn to care for. As time passes, it is not unusual to experience other symptoms or concerns as a result of this scarring; this can include low back and hip pain, digestive repercussions and more. Addressing your scars early on can reduce the likelihood of these tissue issues, although it is never too late to receive treatment. If you feel that this is a treatment area you would like to explore in a gentle, safe manner, book with Pam.

Cupping

Picture of man with cups attached to back

Cupping therapy is an ancient alternative medicine technique where cups are used to create suction and increase circulation to body tissues. Cupping is often associated with bruise-like marks that can be, but are not always, left on the body after stationary work that are a result of broken blood vessels as blood is drawn to the area. These cupping marks are typically painless and should disappear within a week. Certain techniques can be used to reduce or avoid marking all together.

Cupping can be used to help reduce adhesions and tension between the muscle and connective tissue, increase blood flow and support the body’s repair processes. It can be effectively used to reduce pain and support muscle health in a variety of muscle conditions. Cupping can help to support healthy skin, reduce scars tissue and support systemic circulation. Other common indications for cupping include digestive dysfunction, athletic recovery and stress management.

In modern practice silicone or plastic cups are used depending on the condition and technique applied. Sometimes cups are used stationary on a body part for several minutes at a time or incorporated into a treatment with a massage-like movement.

Wondering if cupping is right for you? Book with Erica Pisciotto, Megan Prenty or Christina Mosey to learn more.

Visceral Manipulation

VM assists functional and structural imbalances throughout the body including musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic dysfunction. It evaluates and treats the dynamics of motion and suspension in relation to organs, membranes, fascia and ligaments. VM increases proprioceptive communication within the body, thereby revitalizing a person and relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture.

Visceral Manipulation is based on the specific placement of soft manual forces to encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissues. These gentle manipulations can potentially improve the functioning of individual organs, the systems the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the entire body.
